Working at the CCO is one of the best, and wisest decisions I have ever made. For those who don’t know, Purdue’s Center for Career Opportunities hires students to guide other students and alumni through what can be challenging professional development documents and questions. The CCO provides valuable services to Purdue students, including resume reviews, cover letter critiques, interview preparation, myCCO assistance, and much more. These services, along with the partnerships that have been developed with many leading corporations are just a small part of how the CCO benefits the students and alumni of Purdue University.

2017-2018 CCO Team

None of that would be possible however without the Peer Consultant Program. It is likely that when you stop in for a drop-in service, the person helping you will be a Peer Consultant. These people are undergraduate students who have a desire to help others, have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and are constantly looking for ways to better themselves. That being said, we’re hiring our 2017-18 team!

2016-17 CCO Peer Consultants

Working at the CCO has been so rewarding in many ways. Many would argue that going to college is the perfect segue into a full time job, however simply attending class doesn’t get you into that position. Being able to take part in my fellow classmates’ professional development and possibly having an effect on them getting their dream job is something that brings me so much joy. Not only do I have the opportunity to watch others grow in these skills, I have had the opportunity to expand my knowledge of resumes, cover letters, and many other aspects of professional development that I would not have had the chance to do if it were not for this position. This position has also helped me to develop a broad variety of communication skills through working with such a diverse group of the population. These skills will very easily be transferred to anything that I pursue after college. Working at the CCO has helped me to better myself in ways I never imagined were possible and I am so happy that I have had this opportunity to grow and learn.

Don’t just take my word for it, take a look at how the other peer consultants feel about the position as well.

“My experience at the CCO thus far has been incredible. Not only have I had the opportunity to learn more about myself, but also, how I can service and help others in an effective and impactful manner. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with such supportive co-workers and staff that want to see me succeed in all that I do. I feel blessed to have this internship as a CCO Peer Consultant. I have had the opportunity to develop my professional network with professional staff and my peers and continue to work daily on ways I can push myself to achieve my goals and improve my own professional skills.”

-Meagan Finucane, 2016-2018

"This job has helped me improve my professional communication skills. I have learned much more about resumes than I ever thought I would. The greatest gratification is seeing students showcase their skill set to recruiters.”

-Harley Hudetz, 2017-2018

“The most rewarding experience at the CCO is being able to help students express themselves in an effective and professional manner, and watching them find success in their search for a career.”

-Skylar Clingan, 2016-2018

“The most rewarding part of being a Peer Consultant is the ability to help a wide range of people. From freshmen to seniors and alumni, there are always people who I can help. It also has helped me in my personal career goals, and has led to a successful career fair season. My experience at the CCO has been a great one. I have learned a wide variety of skills that I can put to use when helping people, and in my personal life. A piece of advice that I would give to students interested in this position is that you need to be willing to learn a lot of new things, and always have an open mindset.”
