How to get a jump start on building your network in college

In the early stages of your college career, there are always people giving tips and advice on how to be successful. One of the most important pieces of advice? Network. 75% of recruiters are required to research candidates online, while 90% of recruiters search and look at the social network channels of candidates. One of the most convenient ways to network, that can be accessed anytime and anywhere is LinkedIn.

The Purdue Center for Career Opportunities’ LinkedIn group page is one of the most effective and helpful ways to:

  • Interact with Boilermaker alumni, employers, parents and professionals

  • Find available job positions on the “Job Section” tab

  • Gain information regarding CCO events

  • Receive career advice from recruiters

  • Find Purdue success stories and statistics

There is so much information to gain and utilize on the CCO’s LinkedIn group. Don’t be afraid to start a conversation and post questions. After all, there is no such thing as a silly question. Alumni have been in your position and now have the skills to help you! The more questions that are asked and conversations that are made, the bigger your network will grow.

Need one-on-one help with resume/cover letter revisions or tips on how to improve your LinkedIn page? Stop by the CCO in YONG 132 for a drop-in, Monday-Friday 10am-4pm.
