What is a references page?
A references page is a list of people (usually supervisors) who you have worked with before and who can vouch for your professionalism, skill set, and value to the employer.
When Do You Need One?
If you are applying for a company online, chances are you will fill out a work history containing the detail of your past supervisors. In this case a reference page is not usually necessary. If you do not fill out a work history and submit only a resume and cover letter, a reference page is important to bring with you to your interviews.
You should contact your supervisors before adding them to your references page to make sure that they do not mind being contacted. Additionally, if your supervisors have time, discuss the position you are interviewing for so they have an idea of what aspects of your work/personality to discuss.
