The internship search can be daunting. You have the opportunity to intern anywhere in the world doing anything you want. In the midst of an infinite amount of opportunities, we tend to only focus on a few. If, by chance, those few internship placements don’t work out for us, we tend to lose confidence, drive, and patience. We tend to forget this:
As you keep persevering, here are a couple tips to keep in mind.
Think outside the box.
If your experiences or schedule doesn’t fit the needs of the employer, ask the recruiter if there are any other positions that might be a better fit. They could refer you to a different position within the same company where your expertise would be most beneficial. Another option would be to log in to your myCCO account to search for job postings specific to Purdue students as well as your specific major. There may be hidden opportunities, so don’t be afraid to think outside the box when searching for internships.
Believe in yourself.
Be as prepared as possible during the application and interview process. The CCO can help make sure your resume and cover letter are well written. The CCO also offers interview preparation as well. These three services are a part of our drop-in services. Drop-ins are Monday-Friday 10am-4pm. After a trip to the CCO, you will be feeling like you can tackle anything that comes your way. It may even be the difference between landing the internship and not landing the internship.
Perseverance and patience are key. Good luck in your internship search process! To those who already have an internship lined up, congratulations!
